Flughafenstraße
Berlin-Neukölln

Around 8,600 people live in the district around Flughafenstrasse. The area lies between two important shopping and traffic streets in the north-east (Karl-Marx-Strasse) and west (Hermannstrasse), which lead to Hermannplatz. In the south, the area partly borders the former Kindl brewery.

The inner-city district with dense residential buildings, mostly from the Wilhelminian period, is connected to public transport by two underground lines and several bus lines. The nearby Hasenheide and Tempelhofer Feld offer a substitute for the few green and open spaces. In addition to neighborhood meeting places, there is also a need for places for community work within the Flughafenkiez.

One focus of neighborhood development is education. The support and cooperation with various educational institutions is to be further expanded as part of the educational network. In addition, the profile development of schools in the area and the support of children's and parents' meetings are promoted. Furthermore, there is an increasing focus on outreach work, be it in social work, violence and crime prevention or in strengthening the personal responsibility of the residents.
