Challenges of digitization for disadvantaged urban districts

International workshop, exchange of experiences and discussion

Digital transformation processes are an important task in district work. In the Smart City Charter of the Federal Government for the digital transformation of municipalities from 2017, transparency and participation of the citizens are mentioned as a requirement in this process. Involving people in design processes comes with special challenges, depending on the context.

In the social, digital city workshop, model European projects came together to exchange experiences. Innovative approaches were discussed as to how processes of digital transformation are approached in disadvantaged urban areas. From national examples from Hamburg and Berlin to experiences from Vienna to projects and initiatives from Madrid, Valencia, Stockholm, London and Manchester, the range of possibilities became clear. A European way of digital transformation is emerging.
